Ο Dee Bishop (Dean Martin) μπαίνει με την συμμορία του στο Βαλ Βέρντε του Τέξας για να ληστέψουν την τράπεζα. Κι ενώ τα έχουν οργανώσει όλα πολύ καλά,ένας πελάτης της τράπεζας αποφασίζει να αντιδράσει και να τραβήξει το πιστόλι του. Αμέσως θα δεχθεί δυο σφαίρες και θα πέσει νεκρός, όμως οι πυροβολισμοί θα προκαλέσουν την επέμβαση του σερίφη July Johnson (George Kennedy) και του βοηθού του, οι οποίοι με τη βοήθεια των συμπολιτών τους θα καταφέρουν τελικά να συλλάβουν και να φυλακίσουν όσους επέζησαν από την συμμορία.Λίγο καιρό αργότερα,ο Mace Bishop (James Stewart), αδελφός του Dee, θα ακούσει τυχαία μια συζήτηση και θα γνωρίσει τον δήμιο Ossie Grimes (Guy Raymond) που πηγαίνει στο Βαλ Βέρντε για να κρεμάσει την συμμορία....
